Non-Catholic Defenses Need Not Apply!
As complex as the current crisis within the Church may seem, the responses given to it may be divided into two basic groups; those who believe that to be a faithful Catholic a man must believe the doctrine taught, and obey the laws promulgated by the Roman Pontiff in all circumstances; and those who believe that sometimes faithful Catholics must reject the doctrine taught and/or disobey the laws promulgated by the Roman Pontiff.
The first group may be subdivided into three camps; Ultramontanists, Continuitists, and Sedevacantists. The second group, although it is comprised of persons who may differ on matters of detail, retain one mind with the conviction that a legitimate successor to Saint Peter may teach heresy in the course of the exercise of the Ordinary Magisterium or promulgate universal laws that harmful to the Catholic Church and Her members.
